Sunday was a nice sail

I took advantage of the weather Sunday. Engine worked flawlessly. Nice little 7-12 Knot breeze from the WSW. Sailed past City Island, and back. Watched the frost biters. Met up with another Cape Dory. His was a Typhoon. Said it was his 'winter boat' and that his summer boat was 100 feet. I said this is my only boat, and it's 26 feet. Freddy will probably haul me in the next few weeks. I'd love to keep her in the water all winter as I have done in the past, but I would really like to see if my blister repair job is holding up or not. I felt better on Sunday than I have on any day the last month or so. But it'll be awhile till I am strong enough to windsurf again.

uhg

OK, so she started right up again this time. New Gas, Plugs and all. So I didn't mess with it. Solved the shifter problem with a sharpie. But I didn't go sailing. It was blowing 20 to 30, I couldn't find anyone who wanted to go out with me at such notice, and I just did not feel up to sailing alone. It will be cold today as well [high 30's low 40's] but a more manageable, 5-10. Spent 2 hours re splicing the anchor line, but I still wasn't happy with the results. Hopefully LL will want to sail today.

I hate engines

It's winter again, so I have to keep the boat at a slip. Not a mooring. That means I have to depend on my old 9.9 Merc. It's not dependable. Tried to go for a short sail yesterday. The outboard started first try. Ran it at idle for a few minutes, then it just stalled out. I spent two hours f*%king with the damn thing. Changed the Gas, changed the plugs, screwed up the gear shifter again. Never got to sail. I guess I'll go down and mess with it some more today.

Down time

Seems like I have been injured or sick a lot this year. Broke my foot this spring. I couldn't windsurf, but at least I could sail the boat with my cast on. I had been back windsurfing for about a month when I picked up some sort of nasty viral infection [probably from the polluted water here in NY]

“Down time” is killer. To be unable to the very things that relive our stress, and bring us joy, the part of us that is our very essence…it is how we identify ourselves: to lose that…sucks!

I haven't been able to windsurf or surf for 3 weeks now. I have missed at least three epic sessions. Which is why I have the time to do this Blog thing right now. At least the boat is in the water for a few more weeks. It will be cold this weekend but hopefully I'll be able to sail for awhile. At the very least, I need to get some antifreeze into the boat's systems
